The joy of learning at Digantar
By placing the learner's set of experiences at the heart of all learning, the Jaipur-based Digantar Shiksha Evum Khelkud Samiti has over the years given a fresh interpretation to the term "joy of learning". Digantar's curriculum is based on the intimate connection between content and the classroom teaching-learning processes. This approach celebrates the joys of self-learning and is sensitive and responsive to the child's needs.

Digantar also works in the area of pedagogy, curriculum and material development, providing resource support to other agencies. At the four schools that it runs, learning is accompanied by understanding and the emphasis is on allowing children the freedom to learn at their own pace. Critical thinking and questioning is encouraged and education of the child begins from an understanding and view of the world, through a process of dialogue.

An integral component in this process has been its work with teachers to encourage and enhance their various abilities. Quite apart from its achievement in establishing its own schools on a more progressive idea of learning, Digantar's great strength lies in its ability to take its findings on elementary education beyond the four schools operated by it to train administrators and teachers.

Therefore, it has provided academic and training support to other agencies, including large-scale government programmes such as Lok Jumbish, Government of Rajasthan as well as non-governmental organisations such as Urmul Trust in the past. Presently, the organisation is also collaborating with other organisations like the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Vidya Bhawan Society, Udaipur, Eklavya in Madhya Pradesh, State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) in Raipur and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai for developing curricular material, academic support and running educational courses.
